The commons will also serve as an after-hours entrance for the school. The addition of a student commons area to the high school will create an area where students can study, do homework, and charge devices in the morning and after school. “All of our buildings are in neighborhoods and we want to keep parents and kids off the street as much as we can.” ![]() “When we expand the parking lots, we are also going to create better areas for student drop off and pick up,” said VonHiltmayer. ![]() New roofing, computer upgrades, replacement of HVAC systems, and upgraded parking lots are just some of the things on that list. VonHiltmayer stated many of the improvements to be facilitated by bond funds are not splashy, but are very necessary. “We are excited about the partnerships we have had with our community – residents, parents, and members of the business community – to help us continue to create a vibrant learning environment.” “We are very happy for the support from our community,” said South Lake Schools Superintendent Ted VonHiltmayer. Bond funds will also be used to upgrade technology. The $50 million bond is to be used for remodeling school buildings, athletic facilities, and playgrounds and for an addition to South Lake High School. Residents in the South Lake Schools district approved a school improvement bond proposal by a margin of 58.3% to 41.7%. Clair Shores and Eastpointe approved school bond proposals on Tuesday. ![]()
